Dies ist der zweite Reisebericht von Jochen Rehberg

                                 aus Hannover auf dieser Webseite.

         Der erste mit dem Titel VISITING BUDDY 2002 war sehr erfolgreich,

                        wie ich an Hand der Seitenzugriffe sehen kann.

This is the second report about vacations in the USA by Jochen Rehberg.

His first report VISITING BUDDY 2002 was very successful on my site.

5. 9. 2007 :

Abflug 5:45 Uhr in Hannover nach Frankfurt.

Meine Frau hatte Probleme mit dem Reisepass, durfte nicht mit uns fliegen.

So mussten mein Sohn und ich alleine starten in der Hoffnung, dass sie

bald nachkommen konnte.

1 Stunde später Flug von Frankfurt nach Dallas.

Den Flug habe ich recht gut überstanden.

Vor 5 Jahren musste ich in Atlanta den Flug wegen eines Migräneanfalls

zur Unzeit unterbrechen.

The start of the vacations was absolutely unjoyous. My wife is from Portugal and she did not own a passport that opens the door to the United States of America.


You need a biometric photo in the passport, she had to stay at home trying to get a new passport as soon as possible to follow us later on.

Vom Flughafen mit dem Busshuttle zur Leihwagenfirma.

Guten 8-sitzigen Toyota Sienna übernommen, damit zum Southfork Hotel.

From the Dallas Airport we had a transfer to the rental car company.

We got an 8 seat Toyota Sienna for our trip across the USA and started to our first hotel, the SOUTHFORK HOTEL.

Ein Superzimmer!! Spät abends habe ich telefonischen Kontakt mit meiner Frau

aufgenommen, sie will sich in Osnabrück im portugiesischen Konsulat einen neuen

Reisepass ausstellen lassen und dann nachkommen.

The hotel room in the Southfork Hotel was absolutely superb !!


Late in the evening I called up my wife, who told me, that she was on the way to get a new passport at her Portuguese consulate and then she wanted to comply.


This is me at the famous Ranch, well known from TV all over the world.

6. 9. 2007 :  

Nach dem Frühstück mit dem Bus des Hotels zur Southfork Ranch,

an einer Besichtigung teilgenommen. Danach zurück zum Hotel.

After the breakfast we went to the Soutfork Ranch by bus to attend a sightseeing tour.

Dann mit der Metro in die Innenstadt von Dallas, hier den Ort angesehen, an dem 

Kennedy erschossen wurde (Daley Plaza / Elm Street). Dann in das Gebäude, aus

dem auch geschossen wurde. Anschließend Dallas (Downtown) angesehen.

With the metro to the city of Dallas, where John F. Kennedy was shot.

Then we went into the building from where the baneful shots must have come.

Afterwards we visited Downtown.

7. 9. 2007 :

Abfahrt nach Lubbock, vorher in Dallas bei einer Firma einen Schriftzug für meinen Oldtimer gekauft. Hatte ihn per Internet bestellt, konnte dadurch die Lieferkosten sparen. Nach 5 Stunden in Lubbock angekommen.

Dort direkt zum Buddy Holly Center, wo eine Geburtstagstorte zum 71. Geburtstag von Buddy bereitstand. Alle konnten sich bedienen.

From Dallas we started with our Toyota Sienna to Lubbock, where we drove directly to the Buddy Holly Center to have a look at the Buddy Holly Birthday Cake.
All visitors were invited to taste something from the cake.

Das Museum hatte seit meinem letzten Besuch vor 5 Jahren die

Ausstellungsstücke ein wenig umgeräumt.

Haben im Centerhof Travis und seine Schwester Patricia Holley Kaiter getroffen.

Travis signierte meine Gitarre.

Leider war der Schreiber, wie sich später herausstellte, nicht wischfest.

Habe Travis am nächsten Tag noch einmal um ein Autogramm gebeten,

diesmal mit einem wasserfesten Schreiber.

Travis signed Jochen's guitar with a pen, that was not watertight.

The next day they did it again, with the correct pen.

Hier das Ergebnis meiner "Bemühungen":

Später im gleichen Hotel ein Zimmer gebucht wie vor 5 Jahren (Lubbock Inn).

Leider hat das Management gewechselt. Das Hotel war stark heruntergekommen, der Service war schlecht.

Habe wieder mit meiner Frau telefoniert. Sie hat einen neuen Reisepass (biometrisch) erhalten und einen Flug über Frankfurt - Dallas nach Lubbock gebucht. Landet am 8.9. 2007 um etwa 22 Uhr auf dem Flughafen in Lubbock.

Jochen booked a room in the Lubbock Inn, where he stayed 5 years ago.

He made a bad rating about the hotel in 2007, as he did not like the old beds (like Hammocks) and the service.

8. 9. 2007 :

Nach dem Frühstück haben wir erst einmal das Zimmer gewechselt.

Die Betten waren wie Hängematten.

Für diesen Preis verlange ich bessere Betten!

After the breakfast he changed to another room with better beds.

Dieses Foto gehört zur Geschichte von Buddy und den Crickets.
Waren sie in Clovis, gingen sie in das FOXY DRIVE IN.
Der Standort hat gewechselt, aber die Bewirtschaftung liegt immer noch in Händen ein und derselben Familie.

When Buddy and the Crickets were in Clovis, they went to the FOXY DRIVE IN.

The locaction has changed, but it's run by the same family.

Dann ab nach Clovis.

In front of the Norman Petty Studios.

Time stood still, the studios are as they were long time ago.

Um 11 Uhr beginnt die Führung.

Wieder, wie vor 5 Jahren David Bigham getroffen,

dazu Kenneth Broad und dessen Frau Shirley.

He met him again, David Bigham from the Roses, Buddy's vocal backing group.

And Kenneth Broad, the manager.

This is Shirley, Kenneth's wife.

It's the original one, where Buddy pulled out his Coke.

Während der Führung im Studio trafen wir Gary und Ramona Tollett.

Going through the studios we met Gary and Ramona Tollett.

Jochen and Ramona.

Super nette Leute, haben mir 2 CD's geschenkt und 2 Photos mit Widmung gegeben.

A kind couple, they gave Jochen 2 CD's as a present and 2 autograped photos.

Außerdem waren in der Besuchergruppe 2 Reporterinnen, die meinen Sohn und mich fotografierten, um einen Artikel im "CLOVIS NEWS JOURNAL" zu schreiben.

Part of the visitors group were 2 female reporters from the CLOVIS NEWS JOURNAL, who took a photo of Jochen and son for an article about the studio in their local newspaper. Read more about this article on the next page.

Danach eine herzliche Verabschiedung und zurück nach Lubbock.

Dort kaufte ich Blumen, um sie auf Buddy's Grab zu legen.

Next station of our trip was Lubbock, where Jochen bought some flowers for Buddy's grave.
