Good News from
John Beecher's Rollercoaster Records
"Magic" Chris Hopkins has done it again:
Do you remember ?
In 2011 many of us, me too, acquired this CD.
On the 27th of January, 2021, Rollercoaster Records added this to their website:
HOLLY, Buddy: That Makes It Sound So Much Better! CD Album Disc
THIS UPDATED RELEASE IS FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY HAVE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL RELEASE ............... NOTE THAT THIS IS THE CD ONLY WITH NO PACKAGING TO UPDATE YOUR EXISTING PACKAGE! See separate listing for a copy of this CD with the original CD packaging.......................... We have added new improved mixes and additional versions of the original tracks, PLUS the new version of Peggy Sue Got Married ... reuniting The Crickets with Buddy Holly for the first time since 1958. Buddy Holly with The Jack Hansen Combo: THAT MAKES IT SOUND SO MUCH BETTER - CD version. Buddy Holly's 'apartment tapes' are well-known, particularly the six songs he wrote in December 1958 and recorded on his Ampex 401A tape-recorder. These were heard first in the overdubbed versions produced by Jack Hansen in 1959 and 1960. Many fans prefer Buddy's original guitar and vocal demos to the later overdubbed versions. But the Jack Hansen versions - using some of New York's finest session musicians, who were never really a Combo - are still the ones that most fans remember. There were many flaws in the overdubbing, emphasised by the fact that Buddy Holly never envisaged the tracks he made being used to create commercial releases and thus did not stick to strict tempo timing. And the equipment used to mix the original 3-track tapes was primitive compared to today's computer-based technology. Modern technological advances have enabled us to remix the tracks and errors in timing have also been corrected by producer Chris Hopkins. Chris spent many hours on each track, creating the best versions you will ever hear of the six recordings. All have been remixed into mono and stereo versions ... you will hear instruments you never heard before and the overall quality will surprise you! The CD comes with a 36-page illustrated booklet with full details about the recordings and the re-mastering process. 2020 remix master Note that tracks are arranged so that the songs can be played without the count-ins and studio chatter.

Editor: In my humble opinion, the subsequent processing may have led to a small loss of quality.

NEWS FROM THE SURF BALLROOM
More about the Hologram Tour
Do you remember ??
The last message on the 'old' website in BUDDY HOLLY NEWS 6 was about the Hologram Tour,
which is currently going through England, Wales, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
Personally I was and am not happy with the pictorial presentation of my idol Buddy Holly. Every Buddy Holly fan can see
that this is not Buddy Holly, neither in appearance nor in movement. Why this project was approached so blue-eyed remains
a mystery to me.
On 10-28-2019 the tour will stop in Essen / Germany, at the Colosseum Theater.
Exactly there, where I had a joint performance on German TV with Maria Elena Holly in 2009.
