The Tornados

Die erste neue Instrumentalgruppe, bei der ich sicher war, dass

da bald ein  Hit kommen würde;  ich lag 100 % richtig:

Das Liederheft von LOVE AND FURY; ein Titel, der mich sofort elektrisierte.

Im Jahr 1961 hörte ich ich im Radio "Love and Fury" von einer bis

dato unbekannten Band, den TORNADOS.

Das war Liebe auf das erste Hinhören und, wie man in so jungen Jahren

schon mal verfährt, konnte ich einfach nicht anders und wurde sofort

das erste deutsche Mitglied in dem "TORNADOS INTERNATIONAL

FAN CLUB" in England.

Ich lag nicht falsch, 1962 gelang den TORNADOS der grosse Durchbruch

mit "TELSTAR", dem ersten Erfolg einer englischen Gruppe in den USA

auf Nummer 1 in den Hitparaden, noch vor den Beatles.

100 Prozent aller offiziell veröffentlichten Titel dieser Gruppe habe ich

in meiner Sammlung.

An etwas kann ich mich auch noch erinnern. Ich hatte über den Club eine

Brieffreundin vermittelt bekommen, sie kam aus Wales, hiess Judith Butcher

und wohnte damals in Pontypridd.

Sie teilte mir mit, ich schriebe besser Englisch als sie, denn in Wales ist

Walisisch die Muttersprache und dann kommt Englisch als "Erste Fremdsprache".

You surely remember ' T E L S T A R ', the very first number one

hit in the USA for a British group,  B E F O R E  the  BEATLES !!!  

I liked the TORNADOS  at first sight.

When I heard their first single "LOVE AND FURY" on the radio in 1961,

I  joined the   'TORNADOS OFFICIAL FAN CLUB'  in  England as  the  first

German  member.

THE 'TELSTAR' TORNADOS

In  1962  they  had  their  'ALL  TIME  HIT' called  'T E L S T A R',  a  big 

success  all  over  the  world, produced  by  Joe  Meek. 

This  man  was  a sick Buddy  Holly fan, he  predicted  Buddy's  death

for the 3rd of February, 1958. Everything was correct, except the year.

Backstage he congratulated Buddy that it did not happen. 

Some years later, on another 3rd of February, he  shot  his  landlady

and  then  he  killed  himself.

      Joe Meek was a genius in the world of music.

I'm quite sure to own all titles of The Tornados, that

                     have been officially released.
