50th Anniversary: THE LAST TOUR with Tommy Allsup & Johnny Rogers
Ian Higham asked me to put this poster announcing the 50th Annivesary of THE LAST TOUR on my site. It's a great pleasure for me to do it.
WHAT IS THE LAST TOUR?
In 1999 the original 1959 Winter Dance Party was replicated by a bunch of dedicated fans led by Dennis Farland. Featured artists in 1999 included John Mueller, Ernie Valens and Paul Kruse. Guest artists included Niki Sullivan, an original Cricket.
In 2009, around the 50th Anniversary of the deaths of Rock 'n' Roll's favorite sons, a commemorative Tour will play at three of the original venues that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper played during that infamous January and February back in 1959. The Milwaukee and Mankato performances will be on the exact 50th Anniversary of the original shows.
Two other venues will be played, one at Medina MN near to where the 1959 Tour played at St Paul and another at Waterloo IA where Buddy Holly had played in 1958 on the Summer Dance Party Tour.
Tommy Allsup was Buddy Holly's guitarist on the original Tour in 1959 and has had a long career in country and rock 'n' roll music ever since. He is a Grammy Award winner and his guitar work was a feature on many on Holly's hit recordings. Appearing on around 7,000 recordings, he has recorded and produced a great many artists over the years and is still in demand here in the USA and in Europe where he tours each year. Tommy will be accompanied on The Last Tour by Chicago's JohnnyRogers, reckoned by many to be the finest Buddy Holly tribute artist around, 18 year old rock 'n' roll sensation Richie Lee from Des Moines IA and the renowned Shackshakers from Duluth MN.

The tragic plane crash of February 3, 1959 changed the face of rock "n" roll music history. This panel delves in to the immediate aftermath of the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) with stories about how fate changes history, what could have been, and what we fans were deprived of. Panelists will speak on conditions of the Winter Dance Party tour and how the remaining artists were expected to go on and continue the tour. They will also discuss where these artists would be today, had they lived, and why legacies of these three have continued on, fifty years later. Moderator: Bill Griggs, Rock ‘n’ Roll historian.

die "Stars of the Clovis Festival" heißt und einen repräsentativen Querschnitt der
Stars enthält, die bei diesem Festival präsent waren oder sind.

Booker T. and the MGs, the Memphis Horns and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section will become the newest members of the Musicians Hall of Fame.NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Musician and producer Al Kooper, producer Billy Sherrill and Buddy Holly's band theCrickets also will be inducted this year.
Rock guitarist Peter Frampton and country music great George Jones announced the selections Tuesday.
Booker T. and the MGs helped create the famed Memphis sound in the '60s, playing on recordings by Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, and Rufus Thomas.
The Memphis Horns also were an integral part of Memphis music in the '60s and '70s, appearing on nearly every recording on Stax Records.
The Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section worked on classics like Aretha Franklin's "Respect" and the Staple Singers "I'll Take You There."
Kooper recorded with the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix and also produced the first three Lynyrd Skynyrd albums.
Sherrill produced records by Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Elvis Costello and many others.
And the Crickets influenced everyone from the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen with songs like "Not Fade Away" and "That'll Be the Day."
A formal induction ceremony will be held in October.

Dieses Pferd reitet erste Plätze ein und scheint was drauf zu haben.
There have been (not exactly champion) horses in British racing in the last 10 years with names : Maybe Baby, Its So Easy, Its Not My Fault and possibly one or two more; so there are obviously some good Buddy fans on the UK turf, maybe including the horses who like his music.
Against 14 other horses BUDDY HOLLY wins by 2 1/2 lengths at 8/1
in the 1 mile 2 furlongs 3.40 @ Bath TU 29 April 2008, the favourite
Air Chief was unplaced.
BUDDY HOLLY was trained by ex-champion jockey/retired last year Pat Eddery,
so maybe he has a champion future as this flat-season only started 3-weeks ago
and ends in November.
Bath's racecourse is the highest racecourse in the area.
Horse racing in Bath often attracts large crowds.
He also won at 16/1 at Nottingham on Sa 19/04/08.
Just like the original, BUDDY HOLLY achieves his 3rd straight Win/´Hit´.
Against 16 other horses in the 4.55 Handicap at Sandown Park on Friday 13 June 2008 at odds of 15/2 (7.5 to 1) BUDDY HOLLY was again 1st, this time he beat the favourite by 3/4 length.
"Buddy Holly" is a Bay Colt born in 2005. He was sired by US-owned stallion 'Reel Buddy'' and foaled by mare ''Night Symphonie'.
UK racehorses start competing in their 2nd year and his record so far is: Season 2007/8 Unplaced, Unplaced; Season 2008/9 Unplaced, 1st, 1st.
A bit like BH himself 50 years ago with flops in 56/7 and hits in 57/8.
